276 Indians abroad infected with COVID-19, Centre tells Parliament

The Union government has informed the Lok Sabha that around 276 people of Indian nationals have been infected by the deadly novel coronavirus abroad which include 225 people in Iran, 12 people in the United Arab Emirates and five in Italy, as informed to the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

V Muraleedharan who is Minister of State for External Affairs has said in a written reply to a question, where in he has mentioned that the total number of Indians who have been infected by the deadly novel coronavirus is 276 – 255 in Iran, twelve in United Arab Emirates, five in Italy and one each in Hong Kong, Kuwait, Rwanda and Sri Lanka.

Scroll has reported that the samples have been taken from the passengers who are stranded in Iran for oner two weeks in the past after which the results have come back showing that most of them have been tested positive as being infected by the deadly novel coronavirus and they were reported to be belonging to a group of 850 pilgrims who were stranded in Iran since the month of February when the outbreak of the deadly novel coronavirus has begun and most of them are said to be hailing from Kargil.

Iran is one of the most affected countries in the world by the coronavirus outbreak and the government of India has been working to bring back the Indian nationals who have been stranded there. It has been said that more than 700 people have died by being infected by the deadly virus in Iran and nearly 14,000 cases have been reported as being infected by the deadly novel COVID-19.

A fourth batch of 53 Indian passengers have returned to India from the virus- hit Iran on Monday which has led to the total number of people evacuated from Iran being 389.

Another batch of 205 Indians have been evacuated from the virus hit Iran, by the Union government on Wednesday. It has been reported that around 988 people have died due to being infected by the deadly novel COVID-19 in Iran.

A flight of the Mahan Air has landed in New Delhi on Wednesday morning with the Indian passengers where in most of them are said to be pilgrims from Ladakh who have been stranded in Iran, as said by the official sources.

The government of India has said that, 591 Indian nationals have been evacuated from Iran so far and all the passengers have been sent to a quarantine facility of the Indian Army in Jaisalmer, as said by the sources.
