RBI Launches App to Aid Visually Impaired People Identify Currency Notes

A mobile app was launched which helps visually-impaired people in identifying the denominations of the currency notes. The app is named as ‘MANI’ which stands for ‘Mobile aided Note Identifier’. Shaktinanda Das, the Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the app on Wednesday.
The RBI said that the visually challenged people can also identify the denomination of the currency note by using the mobile app. The central bank has also added saying that, the app also works when offline if once installed.

The MANI (Mobile Aided Note identifier) can be easily downloaded from Android Playstore or iOS App Store. The app scans the currency notes using the mobile phone camera and also gives the output in the form of an audio in Hindi and English.
Several notes has been introduced by the Reserve bank of India under the ‘Mahatma Gandhi Series’, with changes in the sizes, colors, designs after the demonetization in November 2016. several problems faced by the visually-impaired people have been reported in the past couple of years as banknotes of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50, Rs 100, Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 2000 have been introduced under the new series in the past couple of years.
The RBI added saying that the note being genuine or fake will not be authenticated by the app.
