The much awaited and needed decision to ‘facilitate the commuters to get general or unreserved railway tickets’ has been taken by the Indian Railways. The passengers will be able to enjoy the service from tomorrow. The move will also help in paperless ticketing.
The mobile-based paperless unreserved ticketing application, which commences from tomorrow, called UTS, can be downloaded from Google Play store for Android-based mobile phones. After downloading the app, users will get a registration ID for creating a railway e-wallet. Passengers can top-up the e-wallet at ticket counters or on the IRCTC website using a credit or debit card.
According to the media report, commuters can also renew the season ticket using this feature. The app based tickecting was successfully implemented in Mumbai suburban sector on a pilot basis.
Initially, the app will be available for android users, while others will be able to get the app soon. It will become a super-hit if the app gives good satisfaction and saves time.
