Maharashtra Cabinet extends lockdown till May 15th

Maharashtra happens to be the most affected state of the country due to the coronavirus pandemic. The state government had no option left except to impose strict lockdown in the state to curb the spread of coronavirus. The lockdown was imposed till May 1st in the state and the cabinet extended the lockdown till May 15th. A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray took the decision after a series of discussions that took place yesterday. Most of them argued that reopening the state would increase the caseload in these tough times. An official announcement about the extension of the lockdown will be made on April 30th.

Maharashtra ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Rajesh Tope, Vijay Wadettiwar and Uday Samant raised their voice on the extension of lockdown in the state. An extension of lockdown will reduce the pressure on the health system and the health officials. The beds are full and there is a huge shortage of oxygen in the state. If the cases of coronavirus come down. the state would meet the daily demand for oxygen. The government of Maharashtra feels that it is necessary to break the chain of coronavirus spread. The government took the call after they had discussions with the officials and the state cabinet. The state is leading the list of the total number of cases for coronavirus.
