Restrictions being Imposed on India’s Export of Medical Supplies to China

Restrictions on the export of the medical equipment in China have been imposed, as said by the government of India on Sunday. The imposing of restrictions have been done in view of their short supply within the country and it has also been asserted that the authorities and taking precautions which are said to be in accordance with the advisory of the World Health Organization regarding the deadly COVID- 19.

China has raised an issue regarding the restriction of exporting certain medical supplies by India following the coronavirus epidemic in the country China, to which the comments were as a response given by the Spokesper5son in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Ji Rong who is the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy has earlier said that China is hoping that the epidemic situation could be reviewed by India in an objective, rational and calm manner and also to handle with the items that are much needed to China in a cooperative and constructive manner and also to resume the normal personnel exchanges and the trade between the two countries of India and China as soon as possible.

She has also said that any travel and trade restrictions of China has been reportedly opposed by the World Health Organization following the coronavirus outbreak and that the recommendations by the global bodies should be followed by all the parties.

Ravvesh Kumar who is the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs has replied to a query regarding the issue where in he has said that the precautions which are being taken by India are in accordance with the World Health Organization advisory about the deadly coronavirus infection outbreak.

He had added saying that there have been restrictions which were imposed on few medical supplies to China as they were in shortage in the country India as well.

"Just like any other country, India with a billion plus population has the responsibility to take the necessary measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak which, if not properly managed, can become a global risk," the spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs said.

He has also said that as a response to the needs of China, a one time exemption has been granted by India for exporting some items which had been restricted.

He has also mentioned about a letter that had been sent to Chinese Presient Xi Jinping, by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in which it had been noted regarding the assistance of India to China during the “hour of need.”

The decision that has been made by India for sending the medical relief on board a special flight to China has also been referred and it had hoped that the authorities of China will be giving permission for the aircraft to go to the country.

Mr Raveesh Kumar has mentioned that the authorities of China have been called upon for allowing the citizens of India and those of the neighboring countries to return by the same flight that will be send for the medical relief.

The sources from the government has stated on Saturday that although the flights from Japan, Ukraine and France have been allowed to operate from the city of Wuhan, the request that has been made by India was not heeded so far and that deliberate delaying of the permission for the Indian Air Force plane is being suspected.

Sun Weidong who is an Ambassador of China has urged India to review the restrictions which have been posed on the trade and the movement of people, last week.

Around 640 Indians have been already evacuated by the Indian Airlines which had been done through two special air crafts which have been sent to the Wuhan city that is the epicenter of the deadly COVID- 19. It has been estimated that around 100 Indian nationals are still stuck in the Wuhan city of the Hubei province.
