Heavy rains Mumbai since last night led to slowed down traffic and delayed trains, hitting thousands of travelers on a Monday morning.
Since yesterday, four people have died in Mumbai and neighboring areas due to dense downfall. Civic officials have arranged pumps on standby as umpteen low-lying areas in the city reported water-logging.
A 15-year-old was one among the three people who died in Mumbai after falling into an open pit in the suburb of Malad. In Thane, a 15-year-old has been killed in a wall collapse whereas two people died on Sunday after a tree was uprooted in South Mumbai's Dhobi Talao.
According to Mumbai police, the heavy downfall led to water-logging in sub-ways in Andheri, Khar, and Malad suburbs, affecting traffic. A container broke down on a bride on the Eastern Express Highway. Image source: NDTV.com
In the last 24 hours, Mumbai received 231.4 mm rain, a Met department official said.
"So much rainfall is categorized as extremely heavy showers," IMD Mumbai Director Ajay Kumar told news agency PTI. "Expect showers to be as intense today as well," private weather forecaster Skymet said.
Mumbai Police tweeted with a dash of humor, "The showers are heavy but so is our 'bandobast' on the streets to 'be there' for Mumbaikars. We are #AlwaysUpForDuty to help you reach your destination with a little care & caution from you during your journey #RoadSafety #MumbaiRains."
