ISRO has successfully launched India's first Mars Orbiter Mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. It is also India's first inter-planetary flight.
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) has been named 'Mangalyaan' and is being carried by PSLV 25.
(MOM) has been devoloped at a cost of Rs 430 crore. The countdown for this ambitious mission started on Sunday, Nov 3, at 6.08am at Sriharikota.
The MOM is expected to reach Mars on September 24.
No country has been completely successful on its first mission to Mars. And, if India succeeds, it will be a great achievent for its space program.
US, Russia and the European Union have successfully sent missions to Mars earlier. China's attempt abroad a Russian rocket failed in 2011 and Japan tried unsuccessfully in 2003.
