Mumbai is preparing for significant rainfall today, encouraging citizens to remain indoors, following extensive rain that caused flooding and resulted in the cancellation of 11 flights. Schools and colleges in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area will continue operating today as the civic body stated the rain was typical and did not disrupt city life. The BMC advised parents to rely only on official information from the civic body and contact schools or colleges directly for updates rather than believe any rumors. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a "red alert" for heavy rain in Mumbai, prompting the police to ask residents to stay indoors until 8.30 am for safety. The Mumbai Police shared this warning and urged Mumbaikars to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary. No flight cancellations were reported today.
Flight operations appear normal today in contrast to yesterday when 11 flights were cancelled due to heavy rain, which caused runway closures multiple times. Maharashtra has asked Karnataka to release more water from Almatti dam to prevent flooding in Sangli and Kolhapur. In Mumbai, rainfall totals were 44mm in the city area, 90mm in the eastern suburbs, and 89mm in the western suburbs over 24 hours. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation suspended bus services on multiple routes yesterday. The Andheri Subway in Mumbai was also closed due to flooding. NDRF, SDRF, and army teams are assisting in rescue operations. Heavy overnight rain in Delhi resulted in severe flooding and traffic congestion. Many areas of Maharashtra are experiencing heavy rainfall, causing waterlogging and traffic issues.
Central Maharashtra is on high alert due to a red warning for heavy rain until July 26th. People are urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Emergency services are prepared to handle any weather-related emergencies.
