Mihir Shah, a 24-year-old from a prominent political family, has vanished after a tragic accident in Worli left a 45-year-old woman dead. Authorities are now searching for him as the investigation reveals he was behind the wheel of the speeding BMW that crashed into a scooter, causing the fatal collision. The accident claimed the life of Kaveri Nakhawa and injured her husband Pradeep. Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, a deputy leader in the Shiv Sena party, and the family's driver, Rajrushi Bidavat, have been arrested and will appear in court today. Rajesh Shah's lack of cooperation with the police investigation led to his arrest. A nationwide alert has been issued for Mihir, as his home was found locked, and the whereabouts of his mother and sister remain unknown. According to the inquiry, Mihir had been drinking at a bar in Juhu late Saturday night before insisting on driving the high-end BMW, which ultimately resulted in the devastating crash. The fishermen, who depended on the sea for their livelihood, were returning from Sassoon Dock when a BMW collided with their scooter. Kaveri Nakhawa was struck by the vehicle and dragged along as the driver fled the scene. She was immediately rushed to a hospital, but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Mihir Shah, the driver, is reported to have contacted his father about the accident, but has since been unreachable. The authorities have filed a case under various sections of the new criminal code, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to culpable homicide, reckless driving, and destruction of evidence. Provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act have also been invoked. Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, who is also the Sena Leader, described the incident as "unfortunate" and assured that strict action would be taken. "The law will take its own course, and everyone is equal before the law," he stated. The victim's husband, Pradeep, was distraught as he spoke to the media, expressing his worry for his two children and his belief that the "big people" involved would not face consequences, while his family would suffer the consequences. Aaditya Thackeray, from the rival Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Sena party, visited the Worli police station and spoke with the officers about the case.
The tragedy has sparked outrage, and the public demands swift action. The authorities must prioritize apprehending the alleged perpetrator and ensuring they face the consequences of their actions, regardless of their political affiliations. Upholding the law and delivering justice should be the primary focus, without any undue influence or interference. The grieving family deserves our unwavering support and the assurance that the system will work tirelessly to hold the accused accountable. In the face of this devastating incident, justice must prevail, and the integrity of the legal process must be maintained. The recent hit-and-run incident in Worli resembles a tragic event that occurred in Pune earlier this year. In the Pune case, a young driver, who had been drinking, was behind the wheel of a high-powered Porsche car when he crashed, claiming the lives of two 24-year-old engineers. The minor accused's family, including his influential real estate developer father, his mother, and his grandfather, were all apprehended for attempting to tamper with the evidence following the devastating accident.
