Kapil Sibal Quits Congress

Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal called it a quit for Congress after he filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha as an independent candidate. Kapil Sibal also announced that he would be supported by Samajwadi Party. He said that he has submitted his resignation for Congress on May 16th. He said that he is no longer a Congress leader. A brainstorming session of Congress has been held recently to discuss about the routemap for the party in the upcoming elections. Kapil Sibal stood away from the meeting and he informed that he is no longer a part of the party. He said that he would love to raise his voice as an independent and he is not linked to any party.

Kapil Sibal's exit is the fifth biggest exit for a leader from Congress in the past five months. Congress leaders and the leadership is left in shock and puzzled with the exit of Kapil Sibal. He is one of the senior most lawyers and politicians across the country. Kapil Sibal has been against the leadership of Congress and staged attacks on Rahul Gandhi. The Rajya Sabha term of Kapil Sibal ends in July and he was elected from Uttar Pradesh in 2016. As Congress has two MLAs in Uttar Pradesh, it cannot elect a Rajya Sabha MP from the state. Kapil Sibal filed his nomination papers in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief of the Samajwadi Party.
