The India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024 has started, which is the eighth edition of the annual tech event. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event and the World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA) 2024, organized by the International Telecommunication Union. Modi stated that India has democratized digital technology, and that telecommunications in India goes beyond just connectivity, but also fosters equity and opportunity. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive strategy for the Digital India initiative, focusing on reducing device costs, ensuring nationwide digital connectivity, making data widely accessible, and adopting a 'digital-first' approach. Modi highlighted the connection between the global consensus-building of WTSA and the aim of empowerment through enhanced connectivity at the India Mobile Congress. He also noted that in the last decade, India has laid optical fibres spanning a distance equivalent to eight times the Earth-moon distance.

Several years ago, India introduced 5G technology, and now every region in the country has 5G coverage. India has established itself as a 5G market and is now making rapid progress towards developing 6G technology. Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that India is keeping pace with the world in 5G, but will lead the world in 6G. He also mentioned that 5G is expected to contribute $450 billion to India's economy by 2040, and 5G has been deployed across 98% of India's districts and 80% of its population in just 22 months. The upcoming IMC 2024 event will be a four-day event concluding on October 18, held at Pragati Maidan, and will feature participation from major industry players like Xiaomi, Qualcomm, Reliance Jio, and Ericsson. The popular Meta RayBan XR glasses will also be showcased. Reliance Jio chairman Akash Ambani stated that with AI, India has the potential to transform into a new-age global manufacturing and service hub.

The upcoming event will focus on advancements in 5G technology, including practical applications of artificial intelligence and demonstrations of next-generation innovations. Xiaomi and Snapdragon are poised to unveil a new collaboration, which aims to integrate Snapdragon's latest processors into Xiaomi's devices. This partnership is anticipated to boost the performance, particularly in more affordable smartphone models. Qualcomm's showcase will be a major attraction, emphasizing the potential of on-device AI to enhance both mobile experiences and industrial processes. The company will also promote wider adoption of 5G, aiming for increased accessibility across India. Visitors can expect to see demonstrations of Qualcomm's latest processors, including their 10-core, 12-core, and 8-core models, designed for demanding computing needs.

An exciting part of Qualcomm's exhibition is the demo of the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen1 chip. These glasses aim to bring augmented reality into everyday life, offering features like real-time navigation, text translation, and immersive experiences. They highlight Qualcomm's vision for integrating wearable technology into the broader tech ecosystem.
