During an election rally in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, in a scathing attack told the opposition Congress to stop "lecturing on tolerance". "Doob maro (drown in shame). Try to remember that day in 1984 when Sikhs were being massacred in Delhi and all over India two-three days after Indira Gandhi was killed. There were serious charges against the Congress party and Congress leaders. And today on November 2, Congress party is lecturing on tolerance," PM, Modi said, referring to the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
“Today is November 2. Do you recall 1984? Lakhs of Sikhs were massacred in Delhi and across India on the second, third and fourth day of Indira Gandhi’s killing in which serious allegations were made against Congress and its leaders. Today, on the same day, the Congress party is giving lectures on the issue of tolerance. ‘Doob maro, doob maro’ This does not behove you. The tears in the eyes of the Sikh victims have not yet dried. Their wounds have not healed and you are doing this ’dramebaazi’ on November 2,” the Prime Minister said
Organisations and people of a particular ideology are spreading hate to divide people. We will not allow such a diabolical design to succeed. It will shake country's foundations. We are ready to fight the battle," Mrs Gandhi said on Saturday.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in a Facebook post, "While the government led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is trying to accelerate India's growth, there are many who have never intellectually accepted the idea of the BJP being in power. This obviously includes the Congress, many Left thinkers and activists. Over decades, they have practiced ideological intolerance towards BJP."
"Since 2002, the Prime Minister himself has been the worst victim of this ideological intolerance," Mr Jaitley said. He accused the Congress of working on a strategy to obstruct Parliament and stall reforms and also attempt "by structured and organised propaganda to project India as an intolerant society", he said.
“Both Laluji and NitishJi have been fighting against Congress for long. There may be some compulsion of both of them that they have given forty seats to Congress, a party which is non-existent in Bihar. I am thanking both of them for one thing that both gave us 40 seats without a challenge. We have thus got the 40 seats on a platter. I thank Laluji and Nitishji for these 40 seats given to Congress. For the rest, I am thanking people of Bihar,” Mr. Modi said.
