A flag meeting of brigadier-level would be held today between India and Pakistan on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch sector to re-establish the "inviolability" of the border ceasefire. In recent times, both sides opened heavy firing at each other.
Spokesperson of Army said, "The brigade commander-level flag meeting will be held at the Chakan da Bagh crossing on the LoC. The ceasefire violations have escalated in the last few days, resulting in large number of civilian causalities and collateral damage to properties. The field commanders from both sides will discuss the modalities to defuse the tense situation.”
"The violations just along the LoC (manned by the Army) are over 150 till now. The violations along the International Border, where BSF is deployed, are much more," officer added.
Violation of ceasefire by Pak occurred 23 times already in September. Military positions and Indian civilians were shot using rocket-propelled grenades, 120 mm and 82 mm mortars, in addition to automatic weapons.
Recently a meeting between the Pakistan Rangers chiefs and the BSF happened in New Delhi. A similar meeting will be soon held between the two DGMOs, whose last meeting was in December 2013 at the Wagah-Attari border.
