The Narendra Modi led government reportedly made at least 6 changes to the Land Acquisition bill, to woo the opposition parties and to get rid of the anti-farmer remarks on the BJP. Most likely the bill is going to be passed in lok Sabha today. On Monday, various parties expressed their concern on bill requirement.

Among the amendments, the provision of having at least 70 percent of farmers’ consent is likely to be re-inserted in the bill for PPP infrastructural projects. However, the Congress party has clearly stated in Loksabha yesterday that they won’t accept any changes to the 2013 bill introduced by UPA government. And Congress has reportedly issued 3-line whips to ensure the party members to vote against the measure taken by the NDA government.

BJP has been termed as pro-corporate and anti-farmers party by the opposition parties including some their allies like Siromani Akali Dal and Shiv Sena after their move to bring the ordinance regarding this and their budget for financial year 2015-2016. BJP is approaching the parties like Biju Janata Dal and other likeminded parties to pass the crucial bills in Rajya Sabha.

The BJP is enjoying full majority in Loksabha but it is far behind the opposition parties in Rajya Sabha. NDA is having just 62 members including TDP, Shiv Sena, SAD, and PDP.
