An Indian-Canadian Sikh candidate Jagdish Grewal was dumped by the ruling Conservative Party for his views on homosexuality. He was supposed to contest parliament elections on 19 October 2015. The candidate claimed that homosexuality was unnatural and added that gays can be cured into straight people.
Grewal was the Toronto suburban constituency of Mississauga-Malton candidate of the ruling Conservative Party. He also runs a paper ‘Punjabi Post’, in which he wrote an editorial calling homosexuality as "unnatural behaviour" and heterosexuals as "normal". This was the reason why the party dumped the candidate.
His editorial was titled "Is it wrong for a homosexual to become a normal person?" The editorial by him wrote that men turn gays due to some sort of shock in childhood and can be "corrected".
The Conservative Party dumped him and said, "Mr. Grewal is no longer an official candidate for the Conservative Party."
"These (Grewal's) comments do not reflect the views of the Conservative Party of Canada. We believe that all Canadians -- regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation -- deserve to be treated with respect and dignity."
In 2004, homosexuality was legalized vy Canada. The Toronto Pride (gay) Parade is one of the biggest such events in the world.
