BJP has come out openly against decriminalization of gay sex on Sunday. Expressing its support to Supreme Court order recriminalizing homosexuality among consensual adults, the BJP said that gay sex was an "unnatural act" contrary to the country's culture.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, BJP's vice president, while officially endorsing Rajnath Singh's stand said that homosexuality is against India's culture and tradition and cannot be encouraged. It's against the established norms of our society, he added. He further said that if an all-party meeting would be convened by the government on the issue, BJP would support Section 377 of IPC that bans gay sex.
However, BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, LK Advani and Arun Jaitley are silent on the issue. Sonia Gandhi, the Congress chief has supported homosexuality by saying that Supreme Court's verdict is "disappointing".
