India to get more Tejas Type Trains, says Nirmala Sitharaman February 01, 2020 17:13

Nirmala Sitharaman who is the Finance Minister of India has said on Saturday during the presentation of the Union Budget that by the year 2024 the development of 100 more airports will be taking place in order to support the UDAN scheme. Sitharaman has said that Rs 1.7 lakh crore has been provided for the infrastructure of the transport in the years 2020-21, as she has presented the Union Budget for 2020-2021.She has added saying that 1,150 trains will be running under the public private partnership (PPP) mode and also the development of four stations would be taking place with the help of the private sector.The Finance Minister has also promised more trains of the Tejas type to be provided in order to connect to the tourist destinations. The Mercy Plea filed by a Nirbhaya Convict Rejected by the President February 01, 2020 12:49

The mercy plea that has been filed by Vinay Sharma who is one of the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya case, has been rejected by the President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday.The mercy plea that has been filed by Vinay Sharma has been put before the President on Wednesday where in the mercy plea was to urge the President to listen to his side of the story, as said by his lawyer.The curative petition of Vinay Sharma has also been rejected by the Supreme CourtThe lawyer AP Singh who represents Vinay Sharma has said that the death row convict has stated that he already feels dead several times in the prison during the period when his mercy plea has been pending of judicial proceedings.The hanging of the all the four convicts has been postponed by the Supreme Court on Friday as the mercy plea that had been filed by one of the four convicts Vinay Sharma and which has been put before the President urging him to listen to his side of the story, has been pending. The court had said that according to the Delhi Prison Rules of the year 2018, if an appeal and application is made by one of the convicts then the execution sentence for all the convicts shall be postponed as well.Prior to the decision taken by the Court on Friday, the black warrants have been issued by the trial court on all the convicts on January 17 and it had been decided that the convicts would be hung at the Tihar jail on 1st of February at 6 in the morning.The death row convicts were of the Nirbhaya case that had taken place in the year 2012 on December 16 which has shook the nation with raging anger. The case is about a 23- year- old woman who had been gang- raped and assaulted in a moving bus in the night of December 16. The Union Budget is the annual financial report of India as a result of the estimation of the income and the expenditure of the government on a periodical basis.The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman will be presenting the Union Budget for the year 2020- 2021 and it is said to be presented on the 1st of February 2020. the Economic Survey of the year 2019-2020 is said to be released a day before the presentation of the Union Budget i.e., the economic survey of the previous year has been released on 31st of January.The Union Budget for the years 2020-2021 would be the second budget of Nirmala Sitharaman as the Finance Minister of India and it is also said to be the second budget of Narendra Modi led NDA government’s second term.Although the Budget is said to be presented on the 1st of February, there exists shortage of two key officials in the budget- making team of the Finance Ministry.The two key officials include a full- time Expenditure Secretary being one of the key officials. The post of the Expenditure Secretary has been left vacant after appointing G.C. Murmu as the first Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir that has been newly created and therefore G.C. Delhi Court Postpones the Hanging of Nirbhaya Convicts January 31, 2020 19:10

The plea that has been filed by the death row convicts in the Nirbhaya case has been approved by the Delhi court.The plea was in order to seek a stay on their execution on 1st of February. The postponement of the execution has been announced and it is said that the execution shall be postponed until further orders .The verdict has been delivered by Dharmender Rana who is the Additional Sessions Judge at the Patiala court in Delhi.The convicts Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma and Akshay Kumar have been represented by advocate AP Singh. The advocate has urged the court to adjourn the executions “sine die” as the mercy plea of Vinay Kumar which has been placed before the President is pending.The authorities of the Tihar jail have challenged the application of the three prisoners in the case seeking a stay on their execution as only the plea of one convict has been pending and therefore the others can be hanged. This has been opposed by the lawyer of the convict saying that the rules dictate that when there exists pending in the plea of one convicts, the other convicts cannot be hanged.The fourth person who has been sentenced to death in the Nirbhaya case is Mukesh Kumar whose mercy plea has been dismissed by the President Ram Nath Kovind on 17th of January.The convicts are provided with an option of moving a mercy petition before the President only after their curative plea has been dismissed by the apex court.The Nirbhaya case is of a 23- year- old physiotherapy intern who was gang- raped and was assaulted on the night of December 16, 2012 in South Delhi in a moving bus. Supreme Court grants Bail to 17 convicts in the Gujarat Riots Case January 28, 2020 18:54

The convicts in the Sardarpura post- Godhra riots case have been granted bail by the Supreme Court. The 17 convicts of the 2002 case where in 33 Muslims were burnt alive have been granted bail and were asked to relocate to Madhya Pradesh and get indulged in community service.The convicts have been divided into two groups and the the individuals in one group will have to move out of Gujarat and would have to stay at Indore in Madhya Pradesh where as, the other group of convicts would have to relocate themselves to Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, said the bench which has been comprised of Chief Justice S A Bobde and the justices B R Gavai and Surya Kant.The bench has said that the convicts could get themselves healed mentally by taking part in the seminars. The bench has also added saying that the convicts should not enter the state of Gujarat.The bench that was led by Chief Justice of India S.A. Bobde have found that the individuals that have been convicted on the basis of the testimonies of either one or two eyewitnesses.The bench has acknowledged the submission that has been made by Ms. Sharma which states that these men have not committed any crime and were released on parole, furlough etc. It also says that they had also returned to the custodyAn appeal has been made by the convicts who were handed down life sentence in the Sardarpura riots case against the Gujarat High Court order convicting them.It has been said by the court that the community services will have to be undertaken by all the convicts for six hours a week besides they also have to report to the local police station on a weekly basis as the conditions of the bail read.The District Legal Services Authorities at Indore and Jabalpur have been directed by the Supreme Court in order to ensure and observe that the conditions of the bail are being diligently followed by the convicts. The DLSA has also been directed by the Supreme Court in order to help the convicts in finding suitable employment for earning their livelihood.The Supreme Court has directed the Madhya Pradesh State Legal Service Authority in order to file a report after a period of three months and to state whether or not the conditions have been compiled by the convicts.The High court of Gujarat has earlier acquitted 14 and has convicted 17 in the Sardarpura post- Godhra riots case.By Shrithika Kushangi

Broadband and Mobile Data Services Restored in J&K January 25, 2020 10:48

Jammu and Kashmir has been shut off from the internet for six months now as the services were snapped on 4th of August last year, hours before the Article 370 has been abrogated.The administration of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered the restoration of broadband and data services on Friday mentioning that the services of broadband and the the mobile internet services at 2G speeds will be restored from Saturday for the Union Territory. However, the restrictions on the social media is said to be continued at least until 31st of January.Although the broadband connectivity to essential services has been restored on January 15, and the restricted data access has been restored in the North Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Baramulla, the data connectivity services were still snapped in the other places of the union territory until the administration of Jammu and Kashmir has announced the restoration of the services on Friday.The Supreme Court has directed the administration of Jammu and Kashmir in reviewing all the orders that has been suspended regarding the internet services while it ruled that the freedom of speech and expression and the freedom of practicing any profession or in carrying any trade, business or occupation over internet being the medium enjoys Constitutional protection under the Article 19 (1) (a) and Article 19 (1) (g).The notification from the home department says that the limitation of the internet access will be made where in the internet access shall be limited to only the whitelisted sites. The whitelisted sites has been expanded from the earlier being 153 that included the websites under the categories of mail, services, education, banking, travel, employment being few among the others, to 300 where in 53 new portals has been added and the restriction on the social media websites which allow peer to peer communication and Virtual Private Network Application will still persist.The prior 153 whitelisted websites included emailinmg sites such as gmail and outlook and 15 banking websites like reserve Bank of India, J&K Bank, PayPal and Western Union, three websites that are based on employment, 38 educational websites that includes indiaresults, IGNOU and websites for the five J&K based universities, three schools and Wikipedia.The mobile internet data services shall be made available on pre- paid as well as post- paid sim cards. It has also been mentioned that the restoration of the 2G internet facility will be made available and would be continued till 31st of January after which it would be further reviewed.The internet and mobile connectivity has been snapped on August 5 last year after the center has announced the abrogation of Article 370 of the constitution that has been made applicable to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir and has also bifurcated the state into two union territories with Jammu and Kashmir as one union territory and Ladakh being the other union territory.By Shrithika Kushangi

The government of Maharashtra has approved the policy ‘Mumbai 24 hours’ on Wednesday. The policy allows malls, multiplexes and shops to remain open 24 * 7 in the city from January 27.The ministers of Maharashtra Anil Deshmukh and Aaditya Thackeray has made the official announcement on Wednesday as they said that malls, shops, eateries, multiplexes in the non-residential areas like BKC, Nariman Pointremain can be remained open round- the- clock from January 27.The state tourism minister of Maharashtra Aaditya Thackeray has told the reporters that this policy that has been decided by the government could help in generating more revenue and jobs and would add up to the already existing 5 lakh people who are working in the service sector.He added saying that it is not a compulsion for the shops, malls and eateries in keeping them open all night but only the ones who feel that they can do good business can agree in keeping their business open round- the- clock.The policy is said to be a phase wise policy in which the first phase would comprise of the allowance of shops, eateries and theaters in malls and mill compounds that are located in the non-residential areas to remain open all night.The Shiv Sena leader has said that a lane will be opened for food trucks in the Bandra Kurla Complex and Nariman Point near NCPA which will be inspected by the food inspectors who would make sure that the rules on solid waste management, decibel limits and law and order will not be violated and if done so, the owners would be liable of lifetime ban.He added saying that the pubs and bars will be closed as usual at 1:30 am as the excise rules have not been touched.However, the move made by the government of Maharashtra has been slammed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with the leaders of BJP saying that this policy of keeping Mumbai open round- the- clock would increase the number of cases regarding crimes against women and is against the Indian culture. Encounter Breaks out Between Militants and Security Forces in J&K January 22, 2020 18:43

The militants and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are engaged in an encounter in the Awanitpora region of Kashmir. An officer has said that a cordon and search operations have been launched by the Security forces in Khrew as the information has been gained about the presence of militants in the area.The joint operation is said to be carried by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian army and the police of Jammu and Kashmir.The encounter has started after the militants opened a fire and it has been reported that there was a brief exchange of fire which led to the bringing in of additional forces.The encounter has killed three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists which included a police deserter, in Shopian district, earlier in the day.The Jammu and kashmir police has tweeted saying that the encounter has started at Awantipora.A petrol bomb was hurled at the the security forces in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening, by the militants.
