Karnataka Tops in Unemployment-Related Suicides

The coronavirus pandemic left crores of people jobless and there is a huge financial crunch across the globe. Going with the update, Karnataka is on the top of the list in India among the states with the number of suicides due to unemployment in the year 2019. The numbers have increased by a huge number in the state since 2016. Bhupendra Yadav, the Minister for Labour and Employment revealed the statistics of the country. As per the reports from the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), Karnataka reported 553 suicides because of unemployment in 2019 and Maharashtra stood second with 452 suicides and is followed by Tamil Nadu with 251 suicides. From the years 2016-2018, Karnataka reported 224, 375 and 464 suicides respectively.

The number of suicides due to unemployment increased by 24 percent over the period of four years in the country as per the statistics. The total was 2298 in 2016 and it reached 2851 in the year 2019. This is quite alarming told several experts saying that the issues should be taken seriously. Sudden loss of a job is sure a setback for many as most of them rely on monthly salaries and fall short of savings. There are multiple factors that led to depression along with discord in the relationships and personal abuse which may have forced them to take such a drastic step. Telangana's unemployment rate for July was less than 4 percent which is the second-lowest among the Telugu states. Karnataka is having a 2 percent unemployment rate as per the released statistics.

There has been a steady decline in unemployment in Telangana after the state government lifted all the restrictions.
