Soon after the Lok Sabha election results, the newly elected members of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are scheduled to gather in New Delhi on Friday, June 7, to select Narendra Modi as their leader. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief, N Chandrababu Naidu, has reportedly instructed all of his party's MPs to attend the NDA's meeting in the capital. The TDP alone secured 16 MP seats in Andhra Pradesh, while the NDA alliance of the TDP, BJP, and Janasena collectively won 21 out of the 25 available seats. After being chosen as the NDA's leader, Narendra Modi is expected to take the oath of office for his third term as Prime Minister at a swearing-in ceremony likely to be held on Sunday, June 9. Chandrababu Naidu of the TDP departed for New Delhi on Thursday and plans to participate in the NDA meeting. According to TDP sources, Naidu is anticipated to remain in New Delhi until June 9 for Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony.
Narendra Modi is expected to be sworn in as the new Prime Minister over the upcoming weekend, possibly on Sunday, according to PTI reports. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which he leads, has secured a comfortable majority of 293 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha, well above the required 272 seats. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), with its 16 MPs, has emerged as a crucial player in the formation of the NDA government at the Center. The party is likely to join the Union cabinet and will also seek special status for the revenue-starved state of Andhra Pradesh, which lost its IT hub, Hyderabad, to Telangana during the state's bifurcation in 2014. This is not the first time the TDP has been part of the NDA government at the center. The late TDP leader, GMC Balayogi, served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, until his untimely death in a helicopter crash in Andhra Pradesh in 2002. Meanwhile, according to Shiv Sena sources, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is considering other senior MPs, rather than his son Shrikant Shinde, a three-term MP, for ministerial roles in the new government.
In the recent election, the NDA party secured a resounding victory, capturing 30 out of the 40 available Lok Sabha seats in the state. This decisive outcome reflects the confidence and support the people have placed in the NDA's vision and leadership. “JD(U) is part of NDA and will remain in NDA,” senior JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary told reporters on Wednesday. However, there are certain requirements of the JD(U) that the Center has to fulfill regarding the financial and economic situation of Bihar. Our demand for special category status for Bihar is fully justified and should be met. We stand by our demand for SCS for Bihar. On June 5, Modi, sworn in as prime minister of a coalition government for the third consecutive time, chaired a meeting with members of the ruling coalition, who unanimously elected him as party leader.
