The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, was recently captured in a transfixed state, meditating before a statue of the revered philosopher-saint, Swami Vivekananda, in Kanyakumari. This sacred location, the Vivekananda Rock memorial, is where the PM will continue his meditative retreat until Saturday evening. It is the same spot where Swami Vivekananda himself meditated in 1892, seeking a clear vision for India's future. Situated at the confluence of the Indian Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea, the choice of Kanyakumari is seen as a symbolic gesture of national unity, as emphasized by BJP leaders. The party has released captivating images and a video clip showcasing the Prime Minister's spiritual practice. In the video, he is seen performing the 'Surya Arghya' ritual, offering prayers to the sun by pouring water from a traditional vessel into the sea, all while utilizing his prayer beads (Japa mala) in contemplation.

The marathon Lok Sabha elections, spanning seven phases, will culminate on June 1. The vote-counting will take place on June 4. Prior to the 2019 Lok Sabha election results, PM Modi embarked on a spiritual journey in Uttarakhand, where he was photographed meditating in a holy cave near Kedarnath. Similarly, in the 2024 elections, the Prime Minister began his meditation at the Vivekananda Rock Memorial on Thursday evening, May 30th, and continued his 'dyan' (meditation) for a second day on Friday. After spending much of the night in meditation, Modi rose early on Friday and enjoyed the sunrise from the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, meditating for around 20 minutes in front of the 'Devi paadham,' believed to be the footprint of Bhagavathi Amman as she meditated on the rock in devotion to Lord Shiva. He also spent a few more minutes on the open rock, savoring the sea breeze and the impressive 133-foot-tall Thiruvalluvar statue before returning to the meditation hall to continue his 'dyan' on the second day. The Prime Minister is expected to complete his meditation by 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The Coastal Security Group and the Indian Coast Guard continuously monitor the area around the monument. Tourists are now permitted to visit the Vivekananda Rock Memorial, but with numerous restrictions. The Tamil Nadu Government's Poompuhar Shipping Corporation operates the boats that transport visitors, and access is available from Friday at 8 a.m.
