
Ahead of the elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended and approved unique schemes for farmers with a total outlay of Rs 3,70,128.7 Cr. The schemes were introduced for the betterment of farmers' income and also will help to rejuvenate soil productivity and ensure food security.
The Urea subsidy scheme was extended for three years (that is 2022-23 to 2024-25). Urea's actual cost is around Rs 2200 per bag, but subsidy farmers get at an MRP of RS 242 per 45 kg bag.
Under the PM PRANAM (PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness Generation, Nourishment and Amelioration of Mother), they are going to promote alternate fertilizers to balance the use of chemical fertilizers mainly in Union Territory areas.

As a promotion of organic manure, Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved Rs 1,451 Cr. With this organic fertilizers (FOM/PROM) will be available at a cheaper price.
With the new schemes Nano fertilizers and organic fertilizers will be promoted, which helps to reduce the input cost of cultivation of the farmers.
With a clean and improved environment, there will be a reduction in soil and water pollution, which is part of replacing chemical fertilizers.
The minister of agriculture and farmer welfare under Narendra Tomar is hoping towards some innovative cultivation like using drones to spray fertilizers and also going to use GIS (Geographic Information Systems) for accurate surveys.
