The polling for the lection of the new Vice-President of India began today morning in the Parliament House in New Delhi and it will be concluded at 5 PM. The members of both the houses are participating in the election. The tenure of M Venkaiah Naidu will come to an end this month on 10th. Jagdeep Dhankhar is the candidate for NDA and the opposition parties staged Margaret Alva. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi casted his vote in the morning. Union Ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Muraleedharan and Dharmendra Pradhan. Congress President Sonia Gandhi too was present for the election.

The counting of the votes will start this evening and the the 16th Vice-President of the country will be announced later today. 543 members of Lok Sabha, 233 elected members of Rajya Sabha and 12 nominated members are participating in the voting. The total number of votes will be 788.The regional parties like Janata Dal (United), YSRCP, BSP, AIADMK and Shiv Sena, Dhankhar are supporting NDA and it is expected to be an easy win for the leading party with 515 votes. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) are the regional parties supporting the opposition leader Margaret Alva. Trinamool Congress (TMC) decided to stay away from the election. Jagdeep Dhankhar is a 71-year-old Jat leader from Rajasthan and Margaret Alva is 80-year-old Congress leader who worked as a Governor for Uttarakhand and Rajasthan.
