Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui killed in Afghanistan

Danish Siddiqui, an Indian photojournalist and a Pulitzer Prize winner was killed in Afghanistan today. Danish Siddiqui has been on an assignment with the security forces of Afghanistan told Farid Mamundzay, Afghan ambassador. Farid Mamundzay tweeted "Deeply disturbed by the sad news of the killing of a friend, Danish Seddiqi in Kandahar last night. The Indian Journalist & winner of Pulitzer Prize was embedded with Afghan security forces. I met him 2 weeks ago before his departure to Kabul. Condolences to his family & Reuters".

The reports said that Danish Siddiqui was killed in Kandahar's Spin Boldak district. Sediq Karzani, a special force commander of Afghanistan was also killed in the same incident. Danish Siddiqui was covering the clash of Afghan security forces and the Taliban fighters near the border. The special forces of Afghanistan have been in plans to retain the market of Spin Boldak district and the officials called it a Taliban crossfire. Danish Siddiqui was with the special forces of Afghanistan for a week and he has been reporting the issue. The forces are on a mission to rescue a wounded policewoman and she was trapped by the Talibans. Danish Siddiqui last tweeted a video of the vehicles. Danish Siddiqui has been a part of the Reuters team and he won a Pulitzer award for his coverage of the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

Danish Siddiqui is based in Mumbai and he travels to various countries for work. Rest in peace to one of the most talented photojournalists in the country.
