600 Employees Working With Uber Were Laid Off Due To The Coronavirus Crisis

Coronavirus alone hasn’t just affected people physically but it has taken a hit mentally and led to individuals losing their job.

On Tuesday, Uber India spoke about its decision to lay off 600 employees as the coronavirus crisis has taken a hit on services.

This decision came up after the lockdown was extended on May 17th until May 31st. Around 600 full-time positions right from driver-rider support and the other functions are affected, said Pradeep Parameswaran, the President of Uber India and South Asia said in one of his Statement.

Further he says “These reductions are part of previously announced global job cuts this month."

Uber India didn’t have a better option than to let go of their employees. An unpredictable burden of coronavirus has taken a toll on their earnings that it had to bring down the size of its workforce.

According to IANS, on May 14th, Uber laid off nearly 14 percent of its workforce via zoom calls and each call didn’t last for more than 3 minutes. Everyone received a common message "Today will be your last working day with Uber.”

In the US, Uber Technologies mentioned aboutreducing 23 percent of its workforcein order to make profits during become profitable amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Similarly, OLA is planning on laying off 1,400 staff. This includes employees from rides, financial services, and food business. Due to kayos caused by the coronavirus lockdown, in the last two months, Ola’s revenue reduced by 95 percent.
