According to the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy survey, with the lockdown restrictions, almost 84% of the households have gone through a rough patch due to receiving less income.

This survey was studied by CMIE’s Krishnan, Marianne Bertrand and Heather Schofield.

Further, after analyzing the situation from March 21st to May 5th, this study even found out that the rate of unemployment increased from 7.4% to 25.5%. Sadly, 1/4th of the working age population is unemployed.

Kaushik Krishnan, the CMIE chief economist said that almost 34% of households state that surviving for more than one month without additional assistance is going to be difficult.

He states that individuals with less income need assistance immediately to prevent problems such as malnutrition and severe deprivation.

Bihar, Haryana and Jharkhand are most affected and states like Punjab, Delhi and Karnataka are least affected.

Around 65% of the urban households reported that they have sufficient provisions and 54% of the rural households reported the same.

A decline in the income is mainly because of too many lockdowns and the per capita income before the lockdown.
