In the DC Metro area, Silver Spring, Maryland, a medical day care facility named Aastha has opened up for the elderly people.

According to a press release, around 8 percent of the four million Indian Americans are above 65 years old. In our day to day life, many of these elderly people encounter challenges.

They are all alone at home with their children at work. This day care is meant for making the elderly population feel better.

Besides, the elderly Indians depend on medical service and healthcare facilities the most. For a happy and energetic lifestyle, they all depend on good care but language becomes an issue and to address this challenge, Aastha has come into the picture.

Aastha had its grand opening and the Chief guests were Steven McAdams (executive director, Maryland Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives), Councilmember Evan Glass (Montgomery County), and Dr. Siva Subramanian (Indian American community leader) inaugurating the facility and a few other members.

The area of this medical day care center is around 12,500 sq.ft in the Silver Spring. It is located 600 yards from the new White Oak Medical Hospital. In the Montgomery County, that provides facilities to all Indian American Elders.

The CEO of Aastha Sree Sreenath Asian focused on most of the health problems the elderly Indian Americans have and accordingly planned activities at Aastha.  Services Aastha provides are as follows:

•    Transportation facilities from home to Aastha

•    Indian vegetarian food for breakfast, snacks and lunch

•    There are full-time nurses appointed to give the elders their medicines on time

•    Several health and social activities are organized

•    Often, they set up appointments with physicians for the elders
