India to Invite Imran Khan for the SCO’s Annual Heads of Government Meeting

Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has been invited along with the other leaders for the annual meeting of council of heads of government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization later this year, by India, said the officials.

India will be hosting the annual meeting of the council of heads of government of the SCO for the first time, said Vladimir Norov, the bloc’s Secretary General, on Monday.

It has been said by Raveesh Kumar, the External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson that all the eight member countries of SCO, four observer states and dialogue partners of the grouping will be invited to attend the meeting.

The official responded with a yes, when he was asked whether the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan will be invited for the meet which is to be held later this year.

He said that the meeting is being held annually at the prime minister’s level and the SCO’s programme and the multilateral economic and trade cooperation will be discussed.

In a usual manner, the foreign ministers represent the heads of the government meeting of the SCO where as several countries will also be sending their prime ministers.

Inviting Imran Khan to the meeting has been made amid the not-so-good relationship which the two countries share over the withdrawal of special powers of Jammu and Kashmir, by India and bifurcating the sate into two union territories as Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The event is said to be containing several number of meetings prior to the annual meeting of council, which includes one of the SCO ministers of economic activities.
