Uber driver helps deliver a baby in Traffic

While the ride hailing company is facing discrimination throughout the country, the company might get a little relief from the generous effort shown by an Uber Driver, who helped deliver a baby on the Kosciuzko Bridge on Sunday.

23-year-old Saki Tsaki said that he picked up the pregnant woman and her little daughter in Astoria, Queens, after they requested a ride to Wyckoff Hospital in Brooklyn.

He said that soon it became very clear that the woman was on her labor.

Tsaki said “The baby was coming out,” he noted traffic was backed up on the bridge along the BQE, so he pulled over and called 911.

“I kept telling her, ‘Take deep breaths in.’ she was screaming and gasping a lot for air,” he said.

Soon the officials arrived, and 43-year-old Officer Raphael Mohammed of NYPD, helped in delivering the baby, it got more complicated because of a wrapped umbilical cord.

Mohammed said that their first priority was to get the mother calm. Once he got there and saw the child’s body, but not the head. He got close and saw an   umbilical cord that was when he had to move quickly and think quickly. He then said that his priority was to get air to this child and free the airway up.

“It took about three or four [pushes], I was finally able to get the baby out. “My adrenaline was pumping… It worked out.”

Mohammed also credited Tsaki with staying cool.

“The Uber driver was hands on,” he said. “Talking to the mom keeping the situation somewhat calm, at the end he said: ‘thank God you showed up.’ He was doing an excellent job.”
