Dubai Police officers have arrested 34 years old man, for running over his car up on two pedestrians and killing them in Dubai while under the influence of alcohol.
Police authorities said the accident took place on Friday, December 30, 2016, around 5a.m., in Mohammad Bin Zayed Road
The Assistant to Commander in Chief of Criminal Investigation, Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri stated that the driver was arrested within one hour of the accident.
“The Asian motorist was driving within the speed limit, and was heading to the area of Butaina when he ran over two pedestrians who were walking on the side of the road. In his panic, the motorist drove away,” said Maj Gen Al Mansouri.
The two victims, M.R, 30, Sh.H, 29, suffered from severe fractures to the skull and several injuries. Both the pedestrians died immediately, according to police reports.
Officials at Al Qusais Police Station were quick in identifying the color and model of the car, and in an hour, they discovered the vehicle parked in Muhaisna in one of the internal roads.
“The owner of the vehicle was registered under the name of an Asian woman. During interrogation by police authorities, she explained that her brother was driving the car earlier that night.”
Maj General Al Mansouri said that the driver had a police record, which showed that he already had a history of intoxication.
“The accident occurred because of the suspect driver’s lack of paying attention to his surroundings, and when he lost his concentration, he hit the two victims with his car and ran them over,” he said.
The following case has now been transferred to the Dubai’s Public Prosecution.
