Here is a clever strategy, that BJP government is trying to ride, another anti - corruption wave against the main opposition congress.
On Friday, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar outlined in the Lok Sabha, why the government believes that the Congress designed a scam to buy AgustaWestland helicopters.
He mentioned that UPA government is the one who has helped to do every thing to help AgustaWestland contract. Calling the attention on chopper deal, he mocked at congress, saying it seemed to know where this "Ganga was going".
Tyagi and Khaitan were "small people who simply washed their hands in a flowing ganga (of corruption)", Defence Minister Parrikar said. Government will track the beneficiary amount of Rs 3600 crore deal for 12 VVIP choppers.
In protest, Congress MPs walked out of the Lok Sabha against defense minister Manohar Parrikar's assertion.
The defense minister made a quick statement at Congress."Why are you (Congress) concerned? I have not named anybody. You seem to know where the Ganga was going.”
During a debate over the issue in the Lok Sabha, The defense minister Parrikar set forth the sequence of events related to the contract and its resulting cancellation.
In this Debate, Anurag Thakur also spoke on Agusta Westland deal in Lok Sabha.
He raised many related points on the deal for which the Congress party has to answer? Some of the key points include :
1. The price of the deal has gone up from 790 crore to 3600 crore.
2. Why the tests were performed in a foreign country when the helicopter is supposed to fly in India and not tested for local conditions?
3. How did the fire destroy only files of Agusta Westland case?
In a sense, the BJP has done a fairly decent job of keeping the corruption issue alive in it’s proposal to keep the opposition on the run.
