An Indian-American Researcher and her team has invented a ‘Super condom’ that will amplify your sexual pleasure and keep you safe from STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) such as AIDS, even after breaking.
Mahua Choudhery and her team at the Texas A&M University in US used an elastic polymer called hydrogel, and included plant-based antioxidants that have anti-HIV properties to develop this ‘Super condom’.
According to researchers, instead of preventing pregnancy, the condom will also help to reduce replication of HIV virus if it breaks. It is uncertain, that the condom will provide 100 percent protection from all deadly STDs (sexually transmitted diseases).
"We are not only making a novel material for condoms to prevent the HIV infection, but we are also aiming to eradicate this infection if possible," Choudhery, assistant professor at the Texas A&M Health Science Center's Irma Lerma Rangel College of Pharmacy, said.
"Super condom could helps to fight against HIV infection and may as well, prevent unwanted pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases and if we succeed, it will revolutionize the HIV prevention initiative," said Choudhery, the lead researcher.
As soon as the patent formalities done, the product will be available in the market. Researchers are expecting the approval on patent application within six months. In addition, Choudhery said that the product will be in the reach of everyone from rural region to metro cities. They are planning a vast availability of product, she added. About 39 million people have been killed by HIV virus, since its outbreak in 1981.
Choudhery, lead researcher, has been awarded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s “Grand Challenge in Global Health” grant. She has studied Molecular Biology, Biophysics and Genetics in India before pursuing PhD in the US. Presently, she is conducting research in diabetes and the obesity epidemic.
