Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a comprehensive global strategy has to be made by the G20 to end channels like finance, communication and supplies of terrorists.
Modi called for blockage of arms and explosives to terrorist groups, for the creation of special international legal regime for the disruption of terrorist activities and cooperation for the prevention of cyber network usage by the terrorist groups, while speaking to Brics leaders. Early adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism was even sought by the PM.
Modi said during his speech at meeting with the Brics countries leaders that, "As Brics, we must place our priorities on the agenda and activities of G20. One, in the area of development, G20 must place priority on effective implementation of Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 and ensure adequate funding for it,"
"I am confident that Brics economies will continue to be strong and stable and will remain a source of strength for the global economy," Modi said.
Coming to global finance, Modi said that the focus by G20 should be on the implementation of the decisions targeting the restructuring of global economic institutions. G20 should work for close coordination intended to prevent corruption and freeze unaccounted money hoarded abroad as well as its repatriation. The rule-based global trading system should also be strengthened and it should be ensured that the new trading blocs do not lead to global trade regime’s division. PM also made a call to speed up the completion of the Doha Development Agenda.
Modi said later at the summit’s opening session that the G20 should look out for ways to build support system focusing on countries with maximum growth potential, addressing particular bottlenecks as well as facilitating the implementation of country strategies.
"The SDGs are a comprehensive set of goals that places complete elimination of poverty in the world by 2030 as its top goal. And, it creates the right balance between growth, development, human welfare and environment," Modi said.
According to Modi, the projected growth of the Indian economy is 7.5%. "Given our size and scale, India can become a pillar of global growth and stability. This is centered on the belief in the unity of humanity and nature," he said.
