LC Goyal took charge as new Home Secretary on Thursday after a day after Anil Goswami was removed allegedly trying to stop the arrest of the former Congress Minister Matang Sinh in the multi-crore-rupee Saradha scam.
According to sources, Anil Goswami handed over the resignation of Home Minister Rajnath Singh and it was accepted by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
Government released an issue on Wednesday night saying that Goyal will be the home secretary and his tenure will be of two years.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of LC Goyal, IAS, Secretary, department of rural development, as home secretary for a period of two years from the date of taking over charge vice Anil Goswami," the release said.
It also said that Anil Goswami‘s Voluntary retirement from the service has been accepted by ACC with immediate effect by waiving the notice period.
Goswami, an IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, was appointed home secretary during the term of the previous United Progressive Alliance government.
