The upcoming Lok Sabha elections has inspired a group of Indian journalism students from Columbia University to launch a website dealing with poll-related news. The USP of the website is news reports that would be free from jargons.
'FiveFortyFive.com' has been founded by six students of Columbia journalism school and their focus would be the forthcoming general elections in India. The decision to name the website came from the 545 seats in India's Lok Sabha.
The founders of the day-old website are Anand Katakam, Aparna Alluri, Devjyot Ghoshal, Indrani Basu, Iva Dixit and Rishi Iyengar. They believe that elections are not only for political parties and their leaders. It's more about the people and what they think definitely matters.
The "single-subject website" is being termed as a platform for journalists, students, academics, bureaucrats, professionals, and also the 'discerning politician' to voice their opinion regarding the upcoming elections and what it means to them.
The founders of the website will focus on election trivia and news leaving aside jargon-ridden, politics-based journalism. Their news reports will try to attract even the non-political readers by using graphics, charts and visuals to tell political stories in an interesting way, customized for online audience.
For now it is thumbs up for the site, as in just 36 hours it has got 500 likes on Facebook and has more than 400 followers on Twitter.
