A factory in China's Zhejiang province slaughters the largest number of endangered whale sharks in the world. Located in Zhejiang's Pu Qi area, the unit openly slaughters more than 600 whale sharks every year for shark oil, reported Wildlife Risk, a conservation group based Hong Kong.

Shark oil has use in health and cosmetic industry. It finds utility in health supplements, lipsticks and face creams.

Beijing has signed the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, that places a prohibition on the sale of products manufactured from endangered species to the signatories.

Members of Wildlife Risk have reportedly called the attention of regulatory authorities in China to the blatant violation of its international agreements by the slaughter house that is openly continuing its illegal activity.
