Agni IV, India's indigenously developed ballistic missile, was successfully test-fired on Wednesday from Wheeler Island off the Odisha coast. This missile can carry nuclear warheads and has a strike range of 4,000 km.

Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), this surface-to-surface missile was tested from a mobile launcher checking its full range of operations.

After the successful firing of the test, MVKV Prasad, director of Integrated Test Range (ITR) of DRDO stated that Agni IV, which is lighter than Agni III, has been tested and met all the requirements of the mission.

On September 19, 2013, the last test of Agni IV was conducted. Weighing 17 tonne, Agni IV is 20 metre tall and can carry a warhead weighing one tonne.
