Due to the huge costs involved, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not attend Nelson Mandela's memorial service on Tuesday. According to reports in Haaretz daily and pubic radio, the visit of the PM would cost the state exchequer around 7.0 million shekels (i.e. $2 million) only on transport and security.

The Israeli PM was supposed to attend Mandela's memorial service and his office had even informed South African authorities. But the plan was cancelled at the last moment due to the huge expenses involved.

Over 50 heads of state and government are expected to pay their last tribute to the anti-apartheid hero who died last Thursday, according to reports from the South Africa's foreign ministry based on confirmations recieved from countries all over the world.
