Southern England is at the mercy of nature as St. Jude's storm batters Britain, causing flash floods, cutting power lines, shutting bridges and rail services, grounding flights and leaving millions of commuters stranded.
Hailed as Britain's strongest storm in a decade, the 99mph high winds howled across England and Wales, felling trees, cutting power supplies, destroying vehicles and rendering many homeless.
“Gusts of 99mph have been recorded at the Needles on the Isle of Wight, according to the Met Office, while the Environment Agency has put in place 16 flood warnings and 133 flood alerts,” reported Sky News.
Prime Minister David Cameron is in continuous talks with various government departments and agencies to ensure minimum damage to life and property. Transport minister Baroness Kramer has urged all commuters not to step out of their homes until the worst of the weather has passed.
