Amma Mobile Scheme Unveiled By Jayalalithaa For Women Self-Help GroupsGadgets & Mobiles

Jayalalithaa, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, has announced a new scheme named as Amma Mobile scheme for women self-help groups. The scheme would benefit 20,000 trainers across self-help groups in Tamil Nadu.

In the assembly, the Chief Minister made a suo motu announcement. She said that the introduction of the scheme would be done in the current fiscal. An 15 crore rupee expenditure would be incurred to the state exchequer.

The self help groups manage many records linked to organization of meetings, savings, payments and details related to loans among themselves.

Jayalalithaa said, "A special mobile application will be designed to ensure registration of details and to monitor the functioning of each group.”

Self-help groups at Tamil Nadu

A total of 6.08 lakh self-help groups (SHGs) are there in Tamil Nadu. A total of 92 lakh women are part of these SHGs through memberships. Also at village level, Federations are formed with each one consisting 25 groups. Each SHG has trainers to monitor the progress of the SHGs’ members.

Few other latest Amma brand schemes launched by Jayalalithaa government include 'Amma Canteens' - offering low-cost food, 'Amma Mineral Water' - costing Rs 10 a bottle, and 'Amma Pharmacies' - selling medicines at lower rates.
