India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal and rising sports star H S Prannoy have won their first rounds of women's and men's singles respectively in the All England badminton championships' at Barclaycard Arena.
The Olympic medalist Saina has taken edge on Indonesia's Bellaetrix Manuputty with 21-8 21-12, while Prannoy fought hard with France's Brice Leverdez with16-21 21-8 21-18 in the opening round on Wednesday.
The world number 3 Saina will take on France's Brice Leverdez, and Prannoy faces England's Rajiv Ouseph in the second round.
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also reached second round of women's doubles competition.
