Young Vikas Thakur showed what mettle a sportsman is made of by overcoming his acute pain and going ahead to bag a silver for India in weightlifting on the fifth day of the 20th Commonwealth Games.

Despite of being in great pain, Thakur made the lift of his lifetime, clinching a bronze in men's 85kg weightlifting, marking another milestone in India's spectacular show in CWG 2014.

Thakur lifted 333kg (150+183) to bag the silver. Richard Patterson of New Zealand cinched the gold by lift 335kg (151+184).

In weightlifting, Thakur was trailing at third with a lift of 150kg after completion of snatch though the gap with the leaders -- Patterson and Plamondon -- was just one kilogram.

With the addition of four more medals, India's overall haul swelled to 25 with seven gold, 12 silver and seven bronze and were placed fourth in the standings.
