19 May, 2014 will go down as a red letter day for the Manchester United great Ryan Joseph Giggs who quit his successful run as a player only to  take over the top job as the club's assistant manager yesterday. As he stands at the brink of yet another fantastic start to his long relationship with the club, we focus on Gigg's milestones so far.

1973 — Born as Ryan Joseph Wilson on Nov. 29 in Cardiff.

1990 —  Signed up as a trainee with Manchester United. Turned professional within five months.

1991 —  Takes up mother's maiden name and becomes Ryan Giggs. Debuts for United at 17. Scores the winner against Manchester City at Old Trafford on his full debut and becomes the youngest footballer to represent Wales when he plays against Germany at 17 years and 322 days.

1992 — Voted PFA Young Player of the Year.

1993 — Becomes first player to be named PFA Young Player of the Year twice. Wins Premier League title.

1996 — Helps United win league and FA Cup double for a second time in three years.

1999 — Secures memorable win for United in FA Cup semifinal replay against Arsenal at Villa Park.

2001 — Wins seventh league championship and signs new five-year contract.

2007 — Wins ninth Premier League title with United. Announces retirement from international football.

2008 — Breaks Bobby Charlton's appearance record for United in his 759th game, coming on as a substitute — and scoring a penalty in the shootout — as team beats Chelsea in the Champions League final.

2013 — Makes 1,000th appearance for United during a Champions League loss to Real Madrid. Elected as player-coach following arrival of manager David Moyes.

2014 — Steps over as the interim United manager for final four games of season after Moyes is sacked. Quits game a week after the last game of the season to take over as assistant manager to Louis van Gaal.
