West Indies in a strong reply to South Africa’s 231/7, hit 236/6 as Chris Gayle blasted 90 off 41 balls. And he shared a second wicket stand of 152 off 75 balls with Marlon Samuels, who made 60.
South Africa’s 231/7 as Du Plessis scored 119 off 56 balls has gone in vain. West Indies captain Darren Sammy finished the match with a six to take his team to 236 for six wickets.
Man of the match was given to Chris Gayle who scored 90 runs with nine fours and seven sixes in just 41 balls. "Cricket was the winner today," said Sammy. "We were dominated in the Tests but we have different energy in this series."
West Indies' remarkable victory at Johannesburg's New Wanderers ground is now the highest score chase in T20 cricket. The previous T20 record chase was 211 for four by India against Sri Lanka in Mohali in 2009/10.
