Indian People's Natural Calamity Trust Now Closed

The Indian People's Natural Calamity Trust (IPNCT) was created by former Jaipur ruler in 1900 with an intention to offer relief to people of India during famine. The IPNCT is now closed and the Rs 91 lakhs corpus fund is now transferred to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

The move from the Government was taken for the better utilization of the funds. The decision was taken by the government after taking consent from the representative of the former Jaipur ruler.

Previously the IPNCT was administered under the Agriculture Minister’s chairmanship. And the trust used to include 27 nominated members besides two officers. At present, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Ministry of Home Affairs is handling disaster management. NDMA has enough budgets along with infrastructure.

An Official statement was released by the agriculture ministry, which said, "With the passage of time, the Trust seems to have outlived its utility. Since its last meeting held in August 1995, the Trust has no significant activity except giving donations through PM Relief Fund in case of natural disasters.”

Announcing the transfer, the statement released on Thursday said, "With the consent of the representative of the former ruler of Jaipur and opinion of Ministry of Law & Justice, it has been decided to wind up the Trust and Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh decided to transfer the balance fund of nearly Rs 91 lakhs in its corpus to Prime Minister's Relief Fund.”
