Arbaaz Khan, an actor, director and producer has allegedly been summoned for investigating in detail to a betting probe in Indian Premier League Season 11 by Thane police.

Arbaaz khan has been asked for his statement by the ant-extortion cell of Thane crime branch as his name cropped up at the time of probe of high professional bookie Sonu Jalan.

Arbaaz was summoned for placement of money on matches allegedly during the IPL season 11 through bookies.

Arbaaz Khan, 50, is the brother of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.

Pradeep Sharma, the senior inspector of anti extortion cell said that they have summoned the actor/producer to ascertain his role in the betting racket and which shall be confirmed once his statement is recorded.

According to source, Arbaaz was into betting on IPL matches and have lost Rs 2.8 crore following which he receiving threats from Jalan. Salim Khan, Arbaaz's father has claimed of being unaware of the issue.

The anti-extortion cell of Thane Crime Branch on May 16 raided an apartment in Dombivli where the primary centre of an IPL betting ring was located.

Three people were arrested on charge of betting and two more arrests were made in the following days.

Jalan, 41, on the Kalyan sessions court premises was nabbed where he came to comfort his betting partners on Tuesday.

Popularly known as Sonu Malad among gambling circles, Jalan is said to be a chief person in betting business across the continents. According to police inspector Pradeep Sharma, Jalan's annual turnover could be nearly Rs 100 crore.

Jalan, a Mumbai resident is a partner in an active online portal during IPL season. The anti-extortion unite of Thane police claims that the arrest could bring further betting rackets into light as well an army of bookies.
