For Angelina Jolie, who is making her comeback into the big screen after a deep lull, her resurgence project had to be anything but serious. Hence, she chose to play a baddie from the fairytale and go around scaring the little kids in Disney's new movie 'Maleficent'.

For all who didn't know, Maleficent is a famous Disney villain from the1959 animated feature “Sleeping Beauty.” She is the wicked fairy who put the princess to perpetual sleep.

The modern day fairytale however, traces the story behind the wickedness of the character and how she overcomes it for the better at the end.

“It may be dark at times - the darkest Disney will go" says Jolie. In her words, 'Maleficent' is an uplifting tale of justice and a new cinematic heroine with a gothic twist.

So did her six kids, who motivated her to take up the role, liked the movie? "My children have seen it and it really makes them happy," she said.

Ahead of its big release, the studio has kicked off an ambitious marketing campaign, which includes Maleficent lines of MAC Cosmetics and clothing and shoes by designer Stella McCartney, to woo the crowd.

Riding high on the success of 'Frozen', 'Maleficent' is estimated to rake in $64 million at the counters in its opening weekend in the United States and Canada.
