Julianne Moore and Ellen Page will star in the lead role of indie drama 'Freeheld'. Zach Galifianakis will feature in a supporting role in the upcoming project. The film is based on the 2007 Oscar-winning documentary short by the same name. Ellen Page in already part of the film helmed by Peter Sollett.

The upcoming movie is about the true story of the late Laurel Hester (Moore). Laurel was a New Jersey police detective and her world turned upside down when she became terminally ill. The government officials had stopped her from assigning her pension benefits to Stacie Andree (Page), who was her domestic partner.

In Laurel's fight for same-sex couple's rights her conservative detective partner Dane Wells turned out to be the leader of the fight, though he was initially shocked when he came to know of her sexual orientation.

The makers of the film have plans to begin shooting this summer.
