Disney's 'Frozen' has crossed the $500 million box office collection worldwide. The animated musical was released during Thanksgiving and its success at the box office is the greatest Christmas season surprise.    

The film is the fourth film from Disney to achieve the milestone, and it almost upset 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' during the weekend. During the weekend after Christmas, Frozen garnered $28.7 million, while Desolation of Smaug, that released in mid-December, grossed $29 million.The movie's performance is a testament that family pic can earn a fortunes when there is not much competition.

'Frozen' stars the voices of Josh Gad, Kristen Bell, Jonathan Groff and Idina Menzel. The film has become Walt Disney Animation Studios' biggest release in the U.K./Ireland of all time on Monday. The movie is still to be released in Japan, China, Argentina, Brazil and Korea.
