Ranveer Singh’s hit movie Dhurandhar: The Revenge is doing well at the box office, but it has now encountered some legal issues. As stated in a report by Bar and Bench, the production company Trimurti Films has sued filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s company B62 Studios, claiming they used the song Hum Pyar Karne Wale in the film without permission. This news arrives while the film keeps performing strongly in theaters, reportedly surpassing the ₹1,000 crore milestone in India. Trimurti Films says that the song, or a version that sounds similar, was included in Dhurandhar 2 without the required licenses or approvals. This song originally appeared in the 1989 movie Tridev and was created by Anand–Milind with lyrics by Sameer Anjaan, featuring singers Anuradha Paudwal and Udit Narayan.
In the lawsuit, Trimurti states that they own the rights to both the musical piece and its sound recording. The company claims that using the song in the film constitutes copyright violations, such as:
unauthorized reproduction
unauthorized public sharing.
The lawsuit aims to stop any further use of the song and seeks damages and other forms of compensation. The production company has also expressed concerns about the potential financial exploitation of the song. With Dhurandhar 2 now in theaters and expected to be available on digital platforms, the disputed song might continue to earn money from various sources, including ads, streaming, and music sales. Notably, T-Series released a lyrical video of the song on YouTube, giving credit to the original singers and songwriter, which complicates the rights and permission issues further. Dhurandhar: The Revenge is an action-packed spy thriller that delves into the background of Ranveer Singh’s role, Jaskirat Singh Rangi. The film follows his change into Hamza Ali Mazari and his rise within Lyari’s crime scene as he undertakes a mission connected to breaking down a terror group in Pakistan.
The film has a star-studded cast, including Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun, along with various supporting actors. Yami Gautam also makes a special appearance. Legal disputes over copyrights are common in the film industry, especially when older songs are reused, remixed, or integrated into new films. However, these types of cases can have serious consequences, ranging from financial fines to limitations on distribution. For a film as big as Dhurandhar 2, any legal action could affect not only its theatrical success but also its future earnings on different platforms.
