The 2014 Lok Sabha elections gets its dose of glamor now!

Bollywood's item-babe Rakhi Sawant has decided to contest for the upcoming LS polls from Mumbai North-West constituency as an independent candidate. She would lock horns with Congress's Gurudas Kamat, Shiv Sena's Gajanan Kirtikar, producer-actor Kamaal R. Khan of the Samajwadi Party, actor-director Mahesh Manjrekar of MNS, and Mayank Gandhi of AAP.

So what drew Rakhi from showbiz to politics? The actress seems to be contesting on the plank of restoring safety to women in the metropolis.

"I have been virtually mobbed by people demanding that I should fight the election, so here I am," Sawant told media persons here Wednesday.

For all who didn't know, Miss Sawant had recently called up Bharatiya Janata Party's top leadership in New Delhi to express her admiration for its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

"I was offered a BJP ticket from Srirampur in West Bengal. But I am from Mumbai and known Hindi and Marathi. I don't know the local language of West Bengal, so why should I stand from there?" she said.

"Please give me one chance and see what I can do," the actress urged.

Sawant is quitting the film industry to fight for the cause of the people. She would take up cudgels for women's dignity and respect in society.
